Abstract

Background. Development of entrepreneurship draws much attention from the state authorities in the conditions of difficult transformations in the modern Russian economy, and therefore, the key issue here is the need to understand personal characteristics of entrepreneurs, their social capacities and population’s attitudes to them. The purpose of this article is to identify characteristic features of the business layer based on specific ideas of the Russian younger generation about it.
Materials and methods. The research tasks were implemented on the basis of disclosing regional characteristics of the entrepreneur from the perspective of the youth audience in the format of structured interviews. The research data were elicited from the author’s survey of students of several Moscow Universities.
Results. The results show that the activity and the idea of entrepreneurship are of special interest among the respondents and are rated positively by them. The article presents a generalized image of a modern Russian entrepreneur in terms of sociodemographic, socio-economic and socio-personal characteristics.
Conclusions. Many respondents associate the image of a modern entrepreneur with professional qualities of a businessman and with the presence of a certain cultural and socially significant potential, someone capable of active participation in municipal, regional and state social events in conditions of unbalanced market.
